Learn to Read Music on Mandolin in Eight Weeks
Instructor: Tim Connell
Have You Always Wanted to Learn to Read Music, But Keep Putting it Off?
- Are you addicted to mandolin tablature (TABS)?
- Do you still not know the note names on your mandolin?
- Is a lack of music knowledge slowing your mandolin progress?
Familiarity with music notation gives you a HUGE leg up in playing your mandolin - finding your own chords, learning by ear and taking solos.
Mandolin “tablature” (or “TAB”) has enabled many mandolin students to learn a lot of songs - but without necessarily understanding how music works.
What Will You Get From This Class?
In eight weeks time, you will be able to...
- Play ten fun melodies completely from notation on your mandolin
- Know the names of all the notes below the 5th fret on all four strings
- "Sight-read" many more songs
How Much Time Will This Take?
You'll need to practice the course lessons 12 minutes each day, 5 days a week. In addition, you'll have a few short videos to watch.
You'll have forever access to the course videos, so you can stretch this out if you want to.
Plus, you can come back at any point in the future if ever you feel the need (which you won't, because you'll ingrain the skills down to the marrow the first time around.)
If you use the practice-along videos each day, you'll see huge leaps in your understanding of music notation and ability to sight-read.
What Do You Need to Already Know Taking This Class?
1. You should be able to play downstrokes on single strings. No upstrokes necessary.
2. You should be comfortable "fretting" notes one at a time with your left hand. No chords necessary
What Equipment Will You Need?
You'll need:
- A mandolin
- A pick
- The Internet
- Something to watch the videos on
It is strongly recommended that you print out the sheet music and put it in a binder.
What Will the Classes Be Like?
This course is all action, no fluff.
You will immediately receive eight weekly chapters of dedicated sight-reading video lessons.
Each lesson will introduce only a few new notes at a time. This means you’ll be able to digest each new skill and be ready for the next one.
You will quickly learn to translate notes on the staff to your mandolin.
You'll learn ten fun songs entirely from standard music notation, one string at a time.
You'll know exactly what to practice each day so you make the most of every second.
You'll have laser-focus on just the training that makes the difference. You can noodle on your own time - this is a strategic practice to build specific chops.
And you'll finally end your addiction to mandolin tablature!
Who Is This Class For?
This class is for mandolin players of all levels and backgrounds, ages 7 to 97 who want to...
- Finally know all the names of the notes on their mandolin
- Sight-read songs on their mandolin
- Understand how scales and chords work
Who is This Class NOT For?
Anyone not willing to practice 12 minutes a day, 5 days a week for at least eight weeks.
Anyone not willing to follow simple instructions and do the time-tested exercises. The progression of exercises you'll go through were born of over 30 years study and teaching. They work if you do. If you don't, they won't.
When is This Class?
You will have lifetime access to all printed materials and all video lessons in this course.
You can go through the class at your own pace anytime. Recommended duration is eight weeks.
You can return to the course at any time for the rest of your life.

What People are Saying...
"Tim has been a dream mandolin teacher! He is prepared for lessons and keeps my son challenged and moving ahead. Love what I hear coming out of my son’s mandolin!" Kelly M. (Seattle)
"With many, many workshops and lessons from Tim under my belt, I am still coming back for more, and in some cases I keep coming back to the same workshops I've done previously. Why? Because at the end of the day I walk away with something new and I have a great time. And, best of all, I have made considerable progress as a player. Highly recommended! David D. (Seattle)
After a year’s subscription, I am leading gypsy-jazz jams, improvising over chord progressions and playing chordal backing - and I can't help, but grin from ear to ear! I am getting my money's worth with his lessons. Thanks, Tim!!!" Amanda Schrader (Manchester, NH)
